Which Therm Gear is Best for the Snow?
School holidays are in full swing and, thankfully, the snow has arrived! Whether you're heading up the mountain for a full day of skiing or simply building a snowman, choosing the right gear makes all the difference.
One question we get asked all the time is: "Can I use my Therm gear in the snow?"
The answer is yes - but the best option depends on how long you'll be outside, how cold the weather is, and what your child will be doing.
Here's our guide to how each of our ranges performs in snowy conditions.
Snowrider Kids Jacket & Kids Snowsuit
Best for: Full days skiing, snowboarding and serious snow play.
If you're spending the day on the ski field, this is the one.
The Snowrider range is purpose-built for snowy conditions, combining a durable waterproof outer with generous insulation and a soft fleece lining to keep kids warm and comfortable all day long.
Designed for skiing, snowboarding, sledding and endless snowman building, it's comfortable in temperatures from around 7°C right down to approximately -30°C, depending on the layers worn underneath.
For families planning a full day on the mountain, this is the gear we reach for every time.
Hydracloud Kids Puffer
Best for: Cold winter days around town.
The Hydracloud Puffer is warm, cosy and wonderfully lightweight, making it perfect for frosty mornings, school runs and everyday winter adventures.
Because the outer fabric is designed to stay soft and puffy, it isn't intended for rolling, sliding or playing in wet snow. Think winter warmth rather than snow gear.
All-Weather Baby Onesie
Best for: Babies' first snow trip and toddlers who love to explore.
If it's your little one's first visit to the snow, the All-Weather Onesie is hard to beat. Soft, stretchy and easy to move in, it keeps babies comfortable while still allowing plenty of wriggles and cuddles.
For toddlers, it's a fantastic choice for shorter snow play sessions. If the weather is particularly cold or wet, or you're planning several hours on the mountain, our Snowrider Snowsuit offers even greater warmth and protection.
10K Kids Rainsuit
Best for: Toddlers and preschoolers enjoying 1–2 hours of snow play.
Our 10K Rainsuit is unlined, making it a fantastic outer shell that keeps snow out of little backs and bottoms while giving full-body coverage for crawling, sledding and exploring.
Because it isn't insulated, layering is essential. We recommend:
- A merino or thermal base layer
- A polar fleece mid layer
- Additional layers if temperatures are particularly cold
Without insulated layers underneath, it's ideal for around one to two hours of snow play, although very active little ones may stay comfortable for longer.
SplashMagic Kids Storm Jacket
Best for: Families wanting one jacket for winter, rain and the occasional ski trip.
With its cosy fleece lining, the SplashMagic Storm Jacket offers a great balance of warmth and waterproof protection. It's equally at home on the school run, weekend walks and snowy adventures.
For a full day skiing, it's a great option in milder conditions when paired with appropriate base and mid layers. Simply adjust your layering to suit the weather.
All-Weather Hoodie
Best for: Sunny spring skiing and shorter snow adventures.
The All-Weather Hoodie is incredibly soft, stretchy and comfortable, making it a favourite for active kids.
It's perfect for:
- Sunny spring ski days
- Snow play lasting a couple of hours
- Children who prefer lightweight, flexible clothing
For very cold, wet or snowy conditions, or if you're spending all day outside, we recommend stepping up to one of our more waterproof snow-specific options.
Which Therm Snow Gear Should You Choose?
If you're heading to the snow for just a few hours, many of our products will do the job with the right layering. But for regular ski trips, colder temperatures or long days outside, the Snowrider range offers the highest level of warmth, waterproofing and durability.
No matter which option you choose, dressing in layers is the key to keeping kids warm, dry and comfortable so they can spend less time worrying about the cold and more time enjoying the snow.
